Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Yes. Choose the 'Page images' mode (or leave it on Auto). The converter uses pdf.js to render each scanned page as a JPEG image, then embeds those images into the .docx file. The result faithfully captures the visual layout of every page, including handwritten content, stamps, and signatures. Note that the text inside scan images is not editable in Word — it is embedded as a picture.

Which conversion mode should I use?

Use Auto for most PDFs — it reads text on text-heavy pages and falls back to a page snapshot for scans. Use Page images if you need every single page to look exactly like the PDF (forms, charts, complex layouts). Use Text only for office documents where you want editable paragraphs and the smallest possible .docx file.

Does this tool upload my PDF to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser tab. The PDF is read from your local disk, processed by Mozilla pdf.js (loaded from a CDN once), and the Word file is assembled by the docx library. Nothing is sent to Convertissima's servers.

Why is my converted Word document empty?

If you used Text mode and the PDF is a scan or an image-only file, there is no text layer to extract — the result will be empty or near-empty. Switch to Page images or Auto mode and convert again. The .docx will then contain JPEG renderings of each page.

Can I convert PDFs with tables, charts, or complex layouts?

Yes. Use Page images mode. pdf.js renders the entire page — including tables, charts, multi-column text, headers, footers, and graphics — as a JPEG and embeds it into the Word document. The visual output matches the original PDF page for page.

What are the file size and page limits?

Up to 60 MB per file. Text modes support up to 150 pages; Page images mode supports up to 80 pages (rendering is more memory-intensive). Pages beyond the limit are skipped and noted in the result.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted and password-protected PDFs are not supported. Remove the password in Adobe Acrobat, a PDF printer, or another tool first, then convert with Convertissima.
